slowly but surely...

Gray rug- handsome Nugget

Bird/Nest photo

Pink, Cream and Gray stripped bedding

Creamy white armoire with gray glaze

White mirror with pink accents

Ok so i need some inspiration and some know how on baby mobiles. I want to do something hand made. Ideas so far: hot air balloons, sparrows, pin wheels..... but how to make it is the question.

The crib wall will have a blowing tree applique with a little bird sitting on a branch. I also have a vintage chandelier going somewhere. Any thoughts?

Small Town USA

These are a couple photos we shot while in Iowa last week. We traveled to the mid west to honor the passing of Jusin's grandpa, who would have been celebrating his 90th birthday next month. I had a soft spot in my heart for Grandpa 'Ted' and was so happy I could be there to tell him good bye.

For the second time I was able to tour the family farm in Emmetsburg, Iowa. This place is a junk lovers paradise with so much amazing family history. The farm house is where Justin's mom lived along with her 6 other brothers and sisters and parents. I believe there were a total of three rooms at the time of their rearing. Oh how the world has changed!

After drooling over the old lumber that planked the sides of dilapidated sheds and store houses, there were even more treasures inside the multiple buildings on the property. Justin and I dreamed of driving a semi out and loading every piece of the unwanted treasure up and bringing it home. Oh how I would love a 'true reclaimed barn wood floor,' especially if I knew the address of it's origin and who's hands originally helped created the structure. Ah someday!

Justin's uncle still farms the land today. His passion and hard work is inspiring, his farm equipment is pretty impressive too. Is is weird that I have a 'thing' for horsepower? Gotta love a guy who can handle a big piece of machinery!

In another life I could see Justin and I moving to a small farm town and being completely happy there.... as long as there is a good wi-fi connection and fed-ex for necessary online shopping :) Life is simple, beautiful, and hard work still means something. For now Mesa will do...

Black, White, and all shades of GRAY!!

Its official I am addicted to black white and all the gorgeous graysin between!! I'm beginning to wonder of I need some sort of color intervention. Many of my recent projects have been extremely monochromatic and I LOVE IT!Check a few of my recent reappropriated, recycled, and repainted projects below! Oui!

Freshly painted dresser. I think it needs hardware.... I shall head to my go to hardware spot Anthropologie!

Grrrr!

Nothing new here, just a new home for old stuff. Where did the custom pillows come form you ask? A swanky over priced boutique? Etsy? Nope, DIY all the way. I wanted real burlap sacks but the idea of sewing burlap was not in the cards so i hand painted good ol' IKEA pillow cases.

Love these Sugarboo Designs frames.... I better.... They cost a small fortune!

Ok so I added a little tacky gold to the mix, you can never be too tacky or have to much gold in my opinion!

Happily ever AFTER!!!

I love before and after pictures as much as the next gal so I have decided to share some of my before and after interiors with you. Brace yourself its dramatic:)

A bathtub fit for a queen! Note the shelves I made them myself.

View of the kitchen from the living room. We removed a couple of walls in order to open the kithcen up into the dining room. We also removed the walk in pantry and replaced it with a coffee bar and small peninsula.

Dining room. I fell in love with a reclaimed barnwood dining room table from Resortation Hardware but loathed the pricetag. The one seen here is reclaimed French Oak and designed especially for me. Contact Burdette for any of the pieces seen in these photos :)

Another view of the kitchen. The black Walnut top on the island is my favorite touch.

Black and white can lend itself to be very contemporary but in this bathroom I think it is clean yet cozy.

And before...

Tickled Pink!

It has been a while... a long while since my last post. Distance makes the blogging heart grown fonder. I have so many new topics and photos to post, but it is late so I will start with the most important news. Justin and I are expecting a baby girl- due January 13th 2011. So what does this mean? DECORATING A NURSERY of course. Take a peek at the project that just has us 'tickled pink.'

Subtle pink stripes on the ceiling. Why the ceiling you ask- so she can enjoy the view from the crib.

Cabinetry refinish almost done. Swiss coffee base paint, black glaze to give a soft gray effect, vinyl sealer for longevity and VOILA!

Coming soon: custom baby crib, changing table and mini armoire. Stay tuned ya'll!

ALSO: Now that I am back on the wagon, or off the wagon, can't remember the exact saying. Anyhoo- I will be updating the photos and bio on everyone's favorite ranch home and sharing the recent goings on at Burdette Cabinet Co. Inc. My designers have been busy bees creating beauty as usual.

Till next time...

Always remind her that she's braver than she believes, stronger than she seems and smarter than she thinks.

I am incredibly excited that my Industry Professionals- Women's Group will be meeting for the first time in less than two weeks! I have had a few nostalgic encounters remembering adolescent birthday parties 'hoping people would actually show up,' but I am proud to say that the inaugural mixer already has a hefty RSVP list. Yeah!

Suprisingly enough, all of my Women's Studies courses at ASU have been at the forefront of my daydreams as historical reminders of who we are as women, how far we have come, and where our own personal destinies will take us. Don't get me wrong people, I love men, especially the tall, dark and handsome types....Primarily the one I am married to. On a serious note though, I am delighted to see more women in my industry climbing the corporate ladder and not only holding decent jobs, but acting as decision makers, leaders and even owners of their firms.

I think that this new forum will allow all of us women to network more with one another and support each others respective business. We will also have way too much fun, that's a given!

Second order of business- create a name for this fabulous new gathering. Any suggestions?

CM.

Drywall!

All once open areas are now closed up with drywall. Today all of the seams were taped, and nex comes texture.

It is starting to feel like a house again, a house that you cannot see blue sky while standing in the kitchen :)
